FULL GAME, with pre-cut counters: Rhin & Danube, Alsace 1944

In the autumn of 1944, the 1st Army's offensive through the Vosges forests enabled the Germans to hold off the attackers and reconstitute a front, heralding difficult operations ahead for the French, particularly in Alsace.

De Lattre prepared a major operation to break through with the 1st Corps in the Belfort sector. On 13 November, under gusts of snow, Winston Churchill, on a visit with General de Gaulle, asked the head of the 1st Army: "You're not going to attack in weather like this? Certainly not, Prime Minister," replied de Lattre, who launched the offensive the next day.  The surprise was total. On the morning of the 16th, the German positions finally broken through, de Lattre ordered the tanks of the 1st and 5th armoured divisions to move forward. Direction Belfort and the Rhine!

Rhin et Danube - Alsace 1944 simulates the 1st French Army's offensive to bypass the Vosges from the south and take Upper Alsace.  This game uses the same system as Velikié Louki 1942-1943, published in VaeVictis No. 166.
