The Fate of Erebor offers an alternative scenario for The War of the Ring.
The Shadow player attempts to conquer Middle-earth using his military superiority. The Free Peoples player is trying to defend the last free kingdoms of Middle-earth and to gain precious time for the success of the Ringbearer Quest. What if the Battle of the Five Armies had been lost by the Free Peoples and Dain had never become King under the Mountain? What if the Dwarves of the Iron Hills were just scattered remnants of their people?
This expansion adds a variant for The War of the Ring that reflects the Shadow's victory at the Battle of the Five Armies with :
- Changes to the game board.
- A new set-up.
- Alternative Event and Character cards.
